The Rekai Centres
The Volunteer Board of Directors and Senior Management of The Rekai Centres are guided by the vision of championing our residents to live life to the fullest. We are fortunate to be located in the downtown core allowing our residents to participate in the pulse of the downtown community.
The goal is to encourage our residents to participate in outings which take place a minimum of three a month. These excursions vary from cultural programs, educational opportunities to sports to attractions within an hour’s drive of Toronto.
In the past, our cultural and educational outings have included trips to the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Canada Blooms, Red Path Sugar factory, All Fired up Ceramics, Famous People Players, Toronto Symphony and the National Ballet. The residents have attended Marlies Games, cheered on the Blue Jays and visited Woodbine Race Track. Over the last year, the residents have visited tourist attractions ranging from the Toronto Island, Ripley’s Aquarium, Bronte Creek Maple Syrup Festival, Burd’s Family Fish Farm and Niagara Fallsview Casino.
Outings can require a contribution from the resident to cover the cost of the bus, admission costs and the meal while out of the home.
The Life Enrichment Department provides a wide variety of individual and group recreation and leisure programs. These programs will vary daily and may include intergenerational programs, horticultural therapy, music therapy programs, pastoral/spiritual care, pet therapy and exercise programs. All programs are based on one or more of the five domains; intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual to ensure all resident needs are respected.
The Rekai Centres, a non-profit, charitable corporation owns and operates two Long-Term Care Homes in downtown Toronto.
